NERD

There are many definitions of the word nerd. Regardless of what your definition is, I am definitely one of these. I think most people in the world are. But really, it's all in the eye of the beholder. What determines something as a "nerdy" hobby?  Who ultimately decides that? Someone can call you a nerd for nearly any hobby you fancy.

The type of  nerd I am:

  • Video games
  • Anime/manga/cosplay/Japanese culture
  • Creative processes (drawing, writing, etc)

Some other things I consider nerdy:

  • Music (I'll include the theater and musicals in this)
  • -Computer stuff
  • -Sports (including thinks like fishing and hunting, and fantasy leagues)
  • -LARPing
  • -WOW
  • Celebrity hounding
  • Crafts (knitting, home decor, model building, etc).
  • Drinking and drugs (to a more serious extent)
  • Cars
  • Comics (american, and thereby super heros)
  • Movies
  • Table top/card games
  • School work/studying/teams

There are people on and against the side of each thing I listed. I don't really defend or condemn any of these things. I'm just saying it's all the same. You don't have to like or understand it, but respect the fact that someone has the right to enjoy it. Everyone will never see eye to eye. I will always find watching football to be a waist of time and boring. Other people will always find Anime childish and stupid.

    So, what.

    1. Very nice very nice! You are completely right. Be a "nerd" all you want, I'm sure nerds outnumber "non-nerds" or whatever by a lot.

    2. I will add, however, that I am in no way upset that I will never be a middle-aged, over weight man buying a naked figure of a girl with purple hair an unrealistically big boobs.

    3. It'd be wonderful if everyone could respect everyone else's interests and not hate indiscrimately. But I think that's asking too much of people.

      Most people, anyway.
